Lustau: the art of Spanish vermouth elevated to excellence

Talking about Lustau is talking about history, respect for origin, and a unique way of understanding wine in Spain. But it’s also about evolution — how a winery with more than a century of tradition has reinvented itself to create, for us at Made in Spain Gourmet, the best vermouths in Spain… and quite possibly in the world. A humble origin that now leads the world It all begins in 1896, when Don José Ruiz-Berdejo, a court clerk, started cultivating vineyards on his estate Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, in Jerez. As a wine warehouseman, he produced and aged his wines to then sell them to major exporting wineries. He didn’t seek the spotlight. He sought quality. That spirit remains intact today. Lustau is one of the few wineries that works across the three jewels of the Jerez region: Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María, and Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Three territories, three souls, one vision: to create unique wines, deeply tied to the land. An unrepeatable terroir The secret starts in the soil. Albariza, that white, marine-origin soil, can retain moisture and return it slowly to the vine. Add to this more than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and a perfect balance of rainfall. The result: grapes with character, wines with identity… and an exceptional base for crafting vermouths of another level. Excellence recognized worldwide Talking about Lustau is talking about one of the most awarded wineries in the world. Recognized as Best Spanish Winery and repeatedly honored in international competitions, its consistency and quality have set a global standard. But beyond the awards, what matters is what happens in the glass.   [caption id="attachment_33141" align="aligncenter" width="300"]The aperitif, always with vermouth! Spanish tradition in your glass. Spanish tradition in your glass.[/caption] The Lustau vermouths: tradition reinterpreted At Made in Spain Gourmet we have selected three expressions that represent the new generation of Spanish vermouth:
  • Red Vermouth: deep, complex, with spicy notes and a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness. Ideal for the classic aperitif.
  • White Vermouth: fresher and more aromatic, with citrus and floral nuances that make it elegant and versatile.
  • Rosé Vermouth: surprising, modern, and delicate. A proposal that connects with new trends without losing its essence.
These vermouths are not a trend. They are the natural evolution of a centuries-old tradition.   Pairings that elevate the experience Vermouth is reclaiming the place it deserves in gastronomy, and Lustau proves it:
  • Red Vermouth with Iberian ham, preserved seafood, or aged cheeses
  • White Vermouth with seafood, marinated anchovies, or fresh appetizers
  • Rosé Vermouth with smoked dishes, mild cheeses, or even light desserts
The key is to enjoy without fuss, but with top-quality ingredients.   The Made in Spain Gourmet vision At Made in Spain Gourmet we believe in producers who make a difference. Lustau doesn’t follow trends. It creates them. Because when you taste one of their vermouths, you understand something essential: you are not just drinking a beverage. You are enjoying history, terroir, and excellence in its purest form. And then… the aperitif stops being just a moment. It becomes an experience.   Israel Romero, CEO of Made in Spain Gourmet
