Why isn't Gourmet Spain a universal brand?

Universal Brand

It is one of the questions we have asked ourselves at Made in Spain Gourmet since our beginnings. Other countries such as France and Italy have their gourmet categories consolidated at an international level; we do not. Foods of Spain cannot group our gourmet products together at the same level. We work to position that category as it deserves, although we are still largely alone in doing so. The Gourmet concept is known to give certain food products a privileged position.

What is a gourmet product

We could say that a gourmet product is a product that is directly related to haute cuisine and gastronomy — those foods of very good, refined quality. In other words, when talking about gourmet products, we are referring to high-quality products. As a French word, you can imagine the enormous influence that that cuisine has exerted on this category… although less and less every day. And it determines that a product, to be considered in this category, must have special characteristics that attest to it.
  • Top-quality ingredients: The ingredients of any gourmet product must preserve all the organoleptic characteristics of the foods. Organo… what? We mean the color, smell, or texture of the foods used in the products, which must be of the highest quality and superior to those used in other types of products.
  • Exclusive products: Exclusive, not expensive. By exclusive we mean that gourmet products have elements that make them special, and contrary to what many think in our country, they can be consumed regularly, not only on special occasions (although that too). However, the exclusivity of gourmet products is not synonymous with higher prices, since some of them are very affordable for every budget.
  • Carefully designed packaging: it is one of the requirements. When buying them, it is true that there are increasingly more options, since consumption of these gourmet products has increased — not only as typical Christmas items for gift baskets, but throughout the year.
But in addition to those concepts, we must take into account others that are also indispensable and unquestionable, and that are on the same level of importance as the characteristics previously mentioned. The story of how products are made is fundamental to understanding their differentiation and is an important part of the product’s value (time of preparation, people involved in making it…), but not only the products — the brand’s story is important too. A product is not bought in our shop simply because the product and brand are known. In the vast majority of cases, our texts about the product have been read — how it is made, how it is used in a recipe, or how it pairs. But it is also very important to share with consumers who the people behind the brand are. Sharing those people’s values and the reasons behind their decisions to make those products also add value (fundamental and inimitable) to the final product. The Spain Gourmet Brand: still to be defined

Because we target people who understand gastronomy, have an exquisite palate and refined taste, and know select culinary dishes, we have a very clear idea of what the Spain Gourmet category should be. And the main ingredient, in addition to those already mentioned, is Communication. In a world like today’s that needs information to generate trust and differentiation, if we want to place ourselves in the position we deserve in the global gourmet market, without communication it will be impossible. At Made in Spain Gourmet, we believe it is necessary to explain with emotion and attractively what our products are like and how they are made to attract that audience that does exist but does not yet know the quality of products made in Spain. But we must also not forget the Personal Value of the brands (Personal Branding). The people who are responsible for how these products are made are very important — indeed, the people who produce them and are its leaders are as important or even more so. Making them known to the consumer seems to us an indispensable condition to differentiate the product and once again add value to the brand. Because when we buy something special, we like to be told why it is special. And if we have that part well developed, we are convinced that the consumer will choose our products over others that do not possess what we share about them: their uniqueness. We can guarantee that Made in Spain Gourmet only offers products that meet all those characteristics, which make purchasing them so satisfying. We hope more people and brands will join us so the world can see that our gastronomy is simply the Best.
