Made in Spain Gourmet Christmas Special (Part 1)

Christmas Special

We're already warming up for Christmas. In Spain, Christmas gastronomy has evolved a lot in recent years. But what does not — and will not — fail to appear are the abundant sweets, because sweets generate joy and, when shared, even more so. In Spain there are four meals, all abundant, in the Spanish culinary celebration of Christmas, and they are: Christmas Eve (dinner on December 24), Christmas Day (lunch on December 25), New Year's Eve (dinner on December 31) and Three Kings' Day (meal/snack on December 06). And sweets are the protagonists of all of them. That's why, in this Christmas special that we will divide into two parts — this Friday the 17th and the next, November 24 — we will focus on our sweet recommendations for all our Made in Spain Lovers. As always, with the highest quality and the Made in Spain Gourmet guarantee — that is, from Svetlana, Xavi and Israel. Because Made in Spain products are synonymous with quality. Turrón on our Christmas tables since the 16th century

One of the first official mentions of the origin of turrón appears in 1582, in a document from the municipality of Alicante that states, “each year, it is customary, for the Christmas festivities, to pay (...) their wages, partly in cash and partly in a present that is given to them, of an arroba of turrones (...)”, so it was a prized item highly valued even as a medium of exchange. Although turrón is a product with hundreds of years of history and has changed very little compared to how it was originally. Which makes us happy because that tradition is very beautiful to maintain. Also, thanks to the internet, the internationalization of turrón has made it known worldwide today. But don't think it can only be eaten at Christmas — it's available all year in our store. We have the traditional varieties made with nuts and honey as main ingredients, those from Alemany 1879, tradition and excellent quality guaranteed, and we also offer a more avant-garde approach with those made by pastry chef Rafa Gorrotxategi, where imagination and simply unique recipes will take you to gastronomic ecstasy. There's something for every taste. [caption id="attachment_27054" align="aligncenter" width="800"]Polvorones Polvorones[/caption]

Polvorones: From Andalusia to the whole world

The polvorón is a cake, commonly small, made of flour, lard and sugar, baked in a hot oven. Today it is a typical product of Christmas baking in Spain and in many Spanish-speaking places; its name comes from the fact that it crumbles into powder when eaten. Although it is widespread throughout Spain, in many of our regions you can find excellent polvorones.
