La Curiosa: Premium canned specialties at Made in Spain Gourmet

La Curiosa

We were especially excited to have them among the selection of Spain’s top canned fish and seafood products. And you can now enjoy them whether you live in Spain, Europe, or the United States.

Canned seafood 2.0: but high quality

This happens to us very often. Human connection starts our relationships before we begin working professionally. The same happened with Cristóbal Fernández, whom we met at the Alimentaria trade fair in 2021. We loved his way of approaching the world of canned seafood — in an unpretentious, disruptive way and focused on Millennials and Gen Z, because they are the future of gastronomy and they need to know these products, otherwise they won’t eat them. He’s crazy about canned seafood, but of course it runs in the family. His mother worked in a cannery for more than 15 years, so you can imagine there was always a tin on the table at home. After finishing his studies he became curious to learn more about the canning world, and he even had the opportunity to work in a factory for a year. When passion for something meets an entrepreneurial streak, there’s no turning back. As I said before, he has plenty of youth, and he’s very eager — eager to do things well, to bring fresh ideas to a sector that’s too conservative, eager to innovate and to start over. Innovation in gastronomy is very important to capture new generations. His mission is to offer a canned product of the highest quality, to satisfy the most discerning palates. He is a staunch defender of the quality of Galician preserves, so he only produces in the best factories around the Ría de Arousa. He feels a deep passion for the craft, for the people of the sea, for our Galician estuaries, for our surroundings and for our tradition. That’s why they do things the way they were taught, generation after generation. They continue making their preserves with ingredients from the Galician Rías and preparing their sauces following traditional recipes using only natural ingredients and no additives. They maintain processes now forgotten, such as the toasting of certain fish. At La Curiosa they only produce high-quality preserves using the best seafood and fish caught in season and at their peak flavor. The product is made artisanally, carefully canned and packed by hand, selecting and placing each piece in the tin to guarantee the best presentation at tasting time. Thanks to their passion for doing things well, they are able to achieve an exceptional product. The brand’s goal is to dress a gourmet product as a gift: "They want to take the cans out of the pantry and turn them into delicious gifts." 13 varieties to enjoy

In our Made in Spain Store you’ll find up to 13 varieties of their preserves where you can taste their wonderful pâtés, such as sardine, spider crab, velvet crab, mussel, queen scallop, or mackerel; more traditional but exceptional-quality preserves like mussels, razor clams or small sardines; and their bolder bets that are having great international success, such as tuna belly with pesto or curry (which are a hit in New York). And soon we’ll have other products that, due to seasonality, can’t be available yet, like cod pâté with apple, baby squid (chipirones) or queen scallops, among others. The preserves are ideal for an appetizer, a simple but sophisticated dinner, and for sharing — always to share with whoever you want. I recommend white wines: Albariño, Verdejo, Rioja, or wines from Penedès, although my favorite is always a well-chilled premium cava, for example a MIM Natura Rosé Pinot Noir — there’s nothing better.
