Rioja or Priorat: Which Spanish Wine to Choose?

Some decisions are worth making with a glass of wine in your hand. Rioja or Priorat? Two names that represent the excellence of Spanish wine. Two extraordinary regions. And, above all, two very different ways of experiencing the pleasure of a great bottle

Rioja or Priorat: Which Spanish Wine to Choose?

Elegance versus intensity. Two extraordinary ways to enjoy Spanish wine.

Rioja Priorat

At Made in Spain Gourmet, we want to help you discover their differences so that the next time you organise a dinner, prepare a celebration or look for a special gift, you know exactly which one to choose. Because a great wine is not simply the one with the greatest prestige. It is the one that turns an occasion into a memory.

Rioja: elegance you can always enjoy

Rioja is balance, tradition and elegance. Its wines, with Tempranillo as the leading grape variety, captivate with their fruit aromas, delicate spicy notes and extraordinary ability to accompany a great meal. Our advice? Choose a Rioja for dinner with friends, an aperitivo with Ibérico cured meats and aged cheeses, or a delicious roast lamb. A good Crianza invites you to enjoy the conversation. A Reserva can transform a special meal into a memorable experience. Rioja is that guest who always knows how to rise to the occasion.

Priorat: when you are looking for intensity

Some wines accompany a meal. Others become the protagonists. Priorat belongs to the second category.

Its vineyards grow on spectacular slopes of slate, known locally as llicorella. There, Garnacha and Cariñena produce wines of remarkable character, concentration and depth.

Imagine a special dinner, slow-cooked beef cheeks, a rich meat stew or a board of intensely flavoured cheeses. Open a Priorat, serve it in a generous wine glass and give it time to express itself.

It is a wine to be enjoyed without rushing.

So, which one should you choose?

The answer is simple: it depends on the occasion. Rioja offers elegance and versatility. Priorat brings intensity and a distinctive personality shaped by its terroir.

And what if, instead of choosing one, you discovered both? At Made in Spain Gourmet, we select Spanish wines that represent the quality, provenance and authenticity of our gastronomy.

Because Spain has an extraordinary diversity of wines. And it deserves to be discovered, one bottle at a time.
