Corpinnat: Gourmet Sparkling Wines

Gourmet Sparkling Wines

At Made in Spain you already know we love the highest quality and, therefore, when we talk about sparkling wines our favorite label is Corpinnat. Under it, more and more wineries have joined the production and offering of a distinct drink. It follows the same method as French Champagne but is made with native grapes, raw material that is grown and harvested in Spanish vineyards. This is another strong sign of its authenticity tied to the national territory. Below we tell you more details and explain the differences with other international sparkling wines.

The highest quality with the Corpinnat wineries

In this piece we present today on MadeinSpain.store we want to break the clichés that, surely, you know. The idea that Catalan cava is cheaper because its quality is also lower seems a good example. Truly, this great product has nothing to envy from French champagne, to compare it with the most prestigious (and expensive) in the sparkling market. We firmly support this bubbly beverage because behind the producing wineries is Corpinnat. What is Corpinnat? You may not have heard of it because its creation is fairly recent. It is a collective trademark of the European Union that distinguishes sparkling wines produced from 100% organic grapes that are hand-harvested and vinified entirely in the winery facilities. From the heart of the Penedès region to your table, the resulting product follows guidelines that ensure its highest quality. One of the keys to its unique personality is that the Barcelona territory has been perfecting the production process. Always based on a climate and landscape with optimal conditions in unrepeatable locations. Always with sustainable respect for the environment. Always maintaining the commitment to excellence in the result, after long aging that exceed 18, 30 or 60 months to obtain a uniquely unmatched aged cava. A regulatory framework among the most demanding that keeps the rigor and innovation necessary throughout the value chain.

Differences between cava, champagne and prosecco

Elegant, bubbly and with an acidic flavor that enters your mouth producing a certain tingling. These three aspects are shared by all the most well-known sparkling wines. Even that very expectant moment for diners when the bottle is uncorked with the great pop of the cork is common; it is typical of this drink. However, among some more prestigious names, there are differences. Cava centers its production mainly in Catalonia and is usually made from the white grape varieties Macabeo, Malvasía, Parellada, Chardonnay and Xarel.lo. Although red varieties such as Monastrell, Pinot Noir, Trepat and Garnacha are also used. It follows the production method characterized by a secondary natural fermentation in the bottle, which is the same as that of French Champagne. Nevertheless, producing a champagne is more costly than a cava due to several factors. Such as the cost of cultivating vineyards in the Gallic country (where there is less land available for this activity) or the cost of subsequently producing the product in large maisons (for example Moet & Chandon). In the latter case, the sparkling wine can only be produced in the Champagne region, in northeast France, since it is protected by its own Protected Designation of Origin. Another difference compared to cava is its higher price, indisputable because it has long been associated with luxury, while the Catalan sparkling is more affordable. Regarding flavor, we can highlight that Champagne develops a certain complexity and offers fruity notes of apple and lemon, evolving toward toasted flavors. In contrast, cava stands out more for its smoky touch, for a medium acidity and for not needing more sugars than the natural ones, thanks to the sunny climate that provides optimal ripening of the grapes. In the French counterpart, extra sugars are added so the drink is silkier on the palate. Finally, at MadeinSpain.store we do not forget the Italian Prosecco, which is divided into two different categories. One of the best producing regions is Conegliano Valdobbiadene. Its differences are much more marked compared to the two sparkling wines described above. One example is that it is intended for young, fresh consumption, not aged in bottle. Also, it is mainly obtained from the Glera grape variety, although there are others. Its production method is known as the Charmat (tank) because the second fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks. The Prosecco is more economical compared to its Spanish and French counterparts, but you do not get the complexity and depth of the others. In flavor, you can experience fruity and floral aromas with notes of tropical fruits. It is considerably lighter on the palate than cava or Champagne.
