Terrasfondada 2020
This wine reflects Aníbal de Otero’s commitment to artisanal and sustainable viticulture, offering an authentic and elegant expression of Bierzo Mencía.
Winemaking
Terrafondada is a wine made exclusively from old Mencía vines grown in the site of the same name. It was made in an open-ended oak barrel filled to the brim with hand-destemmed grapes, each berry cut one by one with scissors at the pedicel.
Vineyards
The Mencía vines are over 130 years old, some possibly pre-phylloxera, giving the grapes unique concentration and complexity.
Soils
The vineyard sits on poor sandy and clay soils with the presence of pebbles, encouraging optimal drainage and limiting vine vigor, thereby concentrating flavors in the grapes.
Aging
20 months in new French oak barrels.
Vintage: 2016.
