Vega Demara
Vega Demara | Tradition, origin, and evolution
The story of Vega Demara begins in 1946, when the Mateos de la Higuera family acquired its first Tempranillo vineyard in the Mara Antona area. With Grandfather Joaquín’s enthusiasm and vision, a winemaking adventure began, marked by hard work, perseverance, and deep respect for the land.
After decades devoted to vine growing, the family consolidated its project with a clear philosophy: the quality of wine begins in the vineyard. For this reason, from the outset, their wines have been made exclusively with grapes from their own vineyards, ensuring full control of the process and the authentic expression of the La Mancha terroir.
In 2005, the family fulfilled another of its great dreams by producing its first wine, the result of an ambitious vineyard restructuring project. This process combined the recovery of old Tempranillo vineyards with the introduction of improving varieties, always respecting the character and identity of the area.
In recent years, the Mateos de la Higuera Brothers have begun a new chapter, modernizing both their image and their facilities. Under the commercial name Vega Demara, the winery has launched a carefully curated range of wines produced both under the Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla label and with the La Mancha Designation of Origin, reaffirming its commitment to quality and origin.
Thanks to this evolution, Vega Demara has achieved strong international reach, with a presence in the main European markets as well as in China, Brazil, and the United States. This expansion reflects the balance achieved between the tradition inherited from parents and grandparents and the modern winemaking techniques made possible by today’s technology.
Vega Demara is the result of more than six decades of passion for viticulture, a family project that brings together history, innovation, and respect for the land to offer honest, expressive wines that remain true to their origin.
